Audrey Weisiger - Flying Camel
|
Audrey Weisiger describes how to teach a flying camel.
She discusses the most common problems and some of her countless drills and
solutions. She explains what causes a "flying waltz jump" and a "flying
salchow" and how to correct them. She also covers drills to help a young
skater get the proper feeling for the leg movements. She also talks about
body position and she draws helpful diagrams on the ice. This is one of
the best video presentations of flying camel I've seen.
Audrey is an Olympic coach and we are very lucky to have her contributions to
iCoachSkating.com. Please rate this content and leave a comment

» [- Oct 8, 2008 at 2:40 PM -] Nancy G. says: GREAT! It is so nice to see everything mapped out for me. I love the clear drawings and think this will make it so much easier for me to teach the flying camel! Thank you, Thank you Audrey!!!
» [- Oct 8, 2008 at 3:02 PM -] Meg says: Thank you Audrey and Trevor - this is EXACTLY what I needed! Great video - the diagram and exercises she suggested are very helpful. Thanks!
» [- Oct 8, 2008 at 3:45 PM -] Sheila Thelen says: Great! Love it! (Love the last comment - you've obviously been "in the trenches of figure skating!") THANKS AUDREY!
» [- Oct 9, 2008 at 10:25 PM -] karolina says: thank you! this is exactly the concept that i have been teaching my skaters - great to know im on the right track!
» [- Oct 17, 2008 at 9:40 PM -] cheryl says: Great! Very clear instructions. I would love to see the technique she mentions--holding the skater's arms to assist the fly into the spin.
» [- Jan 16, 2009 at 1:39 PM -] Jessica says: Excellent explanations and examples! I look forward to more of your videos.
» [- Feb 1, 2009 at 8:56 PM -] Karen says: Audrey you make it easier to teach and with the drawings, you make it easier for the student to learn. Thank you.
» [- May 1, 2009 at 5:27 AM -] Nathalie says: great video, that's how I teach the flying camel, thanks for the "fence" image tip. I'm gonna use this one.
» [- May 5, 2009 at 6:59 PM -] Dawn says: I like the barrier idea. Thanks for the overall visual presentation.
» [- Jun 8, 2009 at 11:14 PM -] Brigitte says: Gee, with this demo of a flying spin, I think I might be able to do a flying upright spin the next time I skate and I'm only competing at the Adult Bronze level. Thanks for the great instruction Audrey!!!
» [- Aug 21, 2009 at 12:20 AM -] Daphne Solis says: This was a confidence booster for me and my coaching! Audrey's explanation is exactly how I have been teaching a flying camel. In addition to drawing the forward outside entrance edge I also draw what looks like a turtle head coming out of one end and a turtle tail out the other and I tell my students that they don't want to land on the turtle's shell or head because they will kill it I explain that they need to get up and over the turtle. Even my high school aged skaters get a kick out of this.....nobody wants to hurt a turtle! :-)
» [- Jan 3, 2010 at 2:09 PM -] Jen says: I love the explanation of the blade usage, common errors. "Land on the flat and first toe pick" is very precise, and will help my skater because she tends to land on the back outside edge and make those big circles.
» [- Jan 21, 2011 at 12:26 PM -] Amy says: great video~I also, (on entrance), when at the top of the pivot point on left leg have them say "1-2-3- STEP" (or jump) because they tend to stay too long (salchow) or release too quickly(waltz) and that
1-2-3 seemed to help with timing.
» [- Apr 21, 2011 at 12:29 AM -] Laura says: Fantastic explanation!! Best one I've EVER heard :) I wish so much she would do a "flip jump" video...
» [- May 13, 2011 at 12:56 PM -] Laura says: Thanks so much for this! Wow what a huge help it was to get straightforward info on the take-off!! This video has helped me soooo much!!! Thank you!!!
