Audrey Weisiger - Jump Drills and Ankle Contact

In this video Audrey Weisiger works through a series of exercises to help a skater working on triple jumps to feel the proper air position.  This skater was working on triple toe loop but Audrey had her doing single loops and single and double toe loops using various arm positions while making ankle contact.

One of the aspects that sets top coaches apart is their focus on air position.  In particular, they have learned that ankle contact is extremely helpful.  Every top coach has their own drills and exercises to help their skaters achieve the ankle contact position.  And Audrey has taken this one step further.

Audrey has developed an "ankle buzzer" which rewards the skater for  making ankle contact by making a repeating sound that can be heard and during the landing glide.  This training aid can be extremely effective for skaters that are motivated by a challenge.  More information on Audrey's ankle buzzers can be found here.

Don't be fooled.  These drills are difficult and effective and certainly do not require an ankle buzzer.  The skater demonstrating these drills is very skilled.  It takes a lot of practice to make ankle contact on big single loops and single toe loops.

Also, doing the loop with the arms up is great, I can't wait to try it with my students! Thank you for your time! :-)
