Page Lipe - How to Teach A Salchow
|
Page Lipe
shows how she develops the salchow. In this video she starts at the
beginning and works her way up to the double. She shares a lot of
information regarding optional entries and the common mistakes she sees.
As in Page's
Developing
The Axel video, there's some especially interesting concepts that Page takes
for granted, but that I made her comment further on. For example, she
talks about the skater's head position during the entry/take-off edge.
This is one of the 'secrets' of top coaches as there's nothing natural about
this. But as Page says in the video, skaters get used to it. She
describes a great drill for small skaters to get the proper feeling.
Please compare the methods that Page uses with those shared by
Chris
Conte on developing the salchow.
There's a lot of great information in this video (and some of the spins in the
background of the video are very impressive).

» [- Jan 24, 2009 at 12:54 PM -] Eileen says: This video was OUTSTANDING! Thank you so much. As a new coach there is nothing more valuable than seeing a jump explained at the entry level. Knowing how to do it and how to teach it are distinctly different skills. If all the jumps could have a video like this, it would be so helpful.

» [- Jan 3, 2010 at 9:06 AM -] Stewart Feinstein says: Hey Page - I loved everything you did on the Salchow. Especially that you got the head to the right - very important. I teach it exactly the same and have produced the best triple salchows and quad attempts. The one thing I add which I think is the most important of all for double, triple and quads if "Timing" and the fact that you must insert a "Pause" before you jump - this in my opinion will give you consistant jumps. Loved you Kind regards Stewart - UK Coach

» [- Jan 10, 2010 at 9:49 PM -] Mark says: I could kiss you Page! My Salchow has been so bad ever since I learned it. I just got back from the rink and trying the lessons on your video and finally feel like I'm doing it correctly :-) I especially liked the recommendation to practice it all on one side of a line, and even better, doing it with my hands on my shoulders. I was right away able to lead with my foot and cross over the circle and snap my feet together in the air. By the end of the day I was even getting my foot crossed just before landing. (FYI - I am an adult skater who occasionally gets private lessons but often I have to learn on my own and from books so this is just really really great!)
